Our History
Backed by community, collaboration and inclusivity. Community, collaboration and inclusivity have always been central to our culture.
In 1985, six Victorian credit unions in the Goulburn Murray region joined forces to strengthen its banking services for members across Seymour and Shepparton to Cobram and Numurkah.
Over the years, we’ve invested into local projects to help make a difference where it matters for our members, our people and our communities:
- 1955 North East Credit Union is established
- 1963 Seymour Credit Union is founded and grows to 2,226 members in 1984
- 1965 Shepparton Credit Union registers to serve all people within 15 miles of Shepparton Post Office
- 1966 Kyabram Credit Union is formed with 11 members and grows to 5,093 in 1985
- 1984 Rich River Credit Union is formed as a branch of the Kyabram Credit Union
- 1985 GMCU is formed to reflect the six merged credit unions totaling 17,580 members
